Website X

This is a demonstration for the different uses of OpenID on a website. It tries to give a hands-on feeling of what OpenID can do more than just provide an identity to a website. It was developed by Cozmanova Software Development to show a real life example of OpenID's features.

When stepping through this demo, you might consider these points:

  • OpenID Provider
    • Restrict the allowed OpenID Providers to a limited set of known Providers (based on partnership, trust, features, etc.)
    • Find out which OpenID Providers your visitors are using (following your users)
    • Invite users to re-use their Social Network-account (MySpace™, Facebook™, Hyves.nl™, etc.);

  • Extensions
    • Use Simple Registration (SREG) or Attribute eXchange (AX) extensions to let user pass on profile information with an OpenID Logon;
    • Integrate login-process in application flow in different ways (through different screens, or through pop-up)

  • Delegated user management
    • OpenID Provider, this is not Application Provider, takes care of actual authentication of the user, including the management of passwords, tokens, etc.
    • User does not have to remember or duplicate another password, instead re-uses its OpenID-account
This demo simulates a user-signup procedure at Website X, where a user has to provide some basic information about himself; this is a pretty common feature for a lot of websites.
It starts by asking for your OpenID Provider or your OpenID Identifier, to check your identity. Before the actual check takes place, you can select which extensions to use to retrieve different attributes from the profile you have registered at your OpenID Provider.
